I had been obsessively learning about audio engineering, electronics. and circuit bending for over two years. I saved, I got my audio gear, and I had a budget to make a record. My songwriting style was still pretty folky, but I now had the capacity to layer guitars, add weird sounds, put drums on every song, and play with effects. There’s a lot here that was new and confusing to me, and I still have hundreds of copies to sell.
It’s a really weird record and I had a concept of a dystopian-underground parallel reality going on in the lyrics, so there’s a lot of struggle and adversity embedded into the narrative. The packaging has a zine-type and map-inspired design which I would say is the #1 reason to buy the physical product.
